We were/are having some problems with Black tank odor under certain conditions so I decided to get "creative" and investigate the black tank issue...
The toilet seal was intact and appeared to be seated properly... The vent was clear as I took the garden hose up to the roof of the TT and filled the tank with a bit of water...I modified a small video camera to fit down in the toilet flange after removing the toilet and it pretty much told the story - at least a potential problem...
I then attached a small digital camera to a stick and set the camera for a 10 second delay and this camera was lowered into the "abyss" after clicking the shutter button... The resulting photo is shown below...
Note that the vent has either dropped or was initially installed improperly... The vent should protrude no more than about 1/4" into the tank... I haven't attempted to move the vent pipe yet but my dealer has verified that the vent line is a slip (friction) fit into the sleeve you see in the tank photo...
The odor doesn't occur all the time and seemed exacerbated by the new Fan-tastic fan I installed in the bathroom (the problems never seem to end )...
The photo makes for some interesting conversation... The second photo is of my Tornado tank rinser which I think has stopped rotating - that's on the list of repairs too - more "quality" from our RV manufacturers

Vent problems, is one thing I have mentioned on a few threads here. If the vent has slipped down as yours appears to have done Les, before the tank is full, your flooding the vent. Also when you go to dump tank, there is no way for the tank to breathe (vent), therefore pulling a vacumn and slowing the drain process, until the vent is again open allowing air to be drawn in. Great pics and this should help a lot of folks understand these problems better.
Good luck, Steve

Thanks guys... Well, I thought the tank looked kind of dirty - probably due to the Tornado not turning, but just shooting a steady stream of water... I don't have to worry about sensors in my tanks as I installed a SeeLevel Gauge System a few weeks ago but still - the tank does look a little "groady"...
Yeah Steve, I'm going to have to see if I can get a strap wrench around the vent line thru the very small access hole and turn and pull up at the same time... I'll have to remove the roof vent so it has somewhere to go... I just hope the manufacturer hasn't fastened the pipe down somewhere in the wall - that will compound the difficulty of the fix ... I have a feeling this will solve the issue but won't know until I get it repaired...
BTW, have you ever seem the neoprene seal they use on these toilets??? I'm very much tempted to try and fit a wax seal to it - seems to me that a wax seal would really do a better job than that neoprene rubber seal they use...
If anyone else is having problems along these lines - the toilet comes off in about 5 minutes... Turn off water and remove pressure from system, disconnect water feed to toilet, remove to flange bolts and lift!!! Super easy - a lot easier than the household type and lighter too

Note you mentioned fantastic fan running. I hate to bust you bubble somewhat, but those fans have been know to suck the hair off a flee if it happens to be sitting on the thrown when valve is opened. It will cause such a back draft down the vent, and up thru the ball valve bring all that nice gas and methane and a hole weeks worth of meals. I believe it would be wise to have the fan off before flushing. Just my Honest Opinion and experience.
Not that vent hasn't dropped some, but that tank would have to be almost filled before the height of that vent pipe had any real effect.
