I live in Tifton, Ga which is in the southern portion of the state. My family lives in North Central Louisiana. We are looking for a good halfway point to meet for a camping weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions of nice campgrounds? Have checked different review sites. Thinking Alabama will probably be best bet.

We really like Foscue COE park in Demopolis, AL. Maybe 30 minutes south of I-59.

Concrete pads, FHU, and on the river.

Thank you. I have also seen Burchfield Branch Park in Adger, Al. Do you know anything of this park?

Thanks for the response craigt. We actually used to meet in Demopolis as a halfway point but this will be our first camping trip. Can you suggest any sites? Do you like Foscue better than Forkland park?

becks1999, I saw on a site that Tannehill SP didn't accept reservations. Is this true?

bigsiscc,

I believe camping at Tannehill is first come/first serve, but this time of year you will not have a problem getting a site. Also, you might try calling 1-800-ALA-PARK (1-800-252-7275). This is the statewide central reservation number for all Alabama State Parks.

I forget the numbers, but there are about 4-5 sites on the main channel of the river that are GREAT for watching and hearing the tug boats go up and down the river (all night long, if that bothers you). Sitting by the fire and watching them is really a treat.

If you are there with a boat, one on the sites inside the slough would probably be better.

We like Foscue so much that we have not tried the other one.

My wife and I were gate attendants at Foscue. Forkland does not have sewer and kind of out of the way. The sites on the river at Foscue are 49-54. If nothing there, next best is sites 39-44. After that, just take whatever, none of them are bad. Sites 11-15 do not have sewer. You can make reservations thru reserveamerica.com.
