Ok, so I am out " playing " in my new TT. Running the A/C, checking to see how long it takes the freezer to freeze me some ice cubes, running the stove burners, turning on the DSI ( gas ) hot water heater so I can time how long of a shower can be taken, ect..
I turn on the hot water faucet after 20 mins and oh my, what a rotten egg stench! No, it wasnt a propane leak either, it was coming from the hot water.
Dealer had filled my fresh water tank. Could it just be their water? Or is this something that comes along with the first use of a water heater? The water has been sitting in the holding tank for about 30 days, could this be the cause?

Thanx in advance for any help on this.

Water with a high sulfer content does not stink when cold. When heated, WHAM!!! a rotten egg smell. Aside from it sitting in your tank for 30days it would still be ok to drink. But to be safe, we drink bottled water.

There is no reason to tow with your freshwater tank full or half full unless you dry camp. It is just added weight at 8lbs a gallon. Half full can cause your trailer to tow weird by sloshing. We usually leave about 5 gallons in their for use on the road.

Drain it and refill with your water.

My brother has a well and his hot water has an awful stink. The Georgia Extension Service told him about the high sulfer content in his area.

Water System Sanitation

It is not uncommon for RV owners to complain of bad water. The first sign of a contaminated water system is usually a bad taste, followed by strange orders emanating from the water supply. Bacteria may have built up in the water tank, especially if the water tank's supply has not been used frequently and has not been replenished with fresh, clean water on a regular basis. When a rig comes out of storage or is being used extensively on a city-water connection, the tank and entire water system should be sanitized before use. Some of the bacterial buildup can cause serious illness; don't take chances!

1. Drain the water tank completely, then refill halfway with clean, fresh water.
2. Mix 1/4 cup of household bleach for every 15 gallons of tank capacity in a container with a gallon or two of clean water.
3. Pour this mixture into the water tank.
4. Top off the water tank with fresh water. Drive the rig around the block to mix the solution.
5. Pump water through each faucet so that all the lines are filled with the water/bleach.
6. The hot-water tank holds at least 6 gallons of water. Run the hot-water faucets until this much solution has passed to insure that the old water has been purged from the hot-water tank, and it is now filled with the water/bleach solution from the water tank.
7. Let the water stand for several hours.
8. Drain the entire water system, hot-water tank included.
9. To remove the bleach odor, mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with a gallon of water and pour into the freshwater tank.
10. Fill the tank completely and pump this solution through the water heater and the rest of the water lines. This solution can sit in the system for a few days. Driving the rig around the block will slosh water around and thoroughly clean the tank.
11. Drain the entire system and refill with fresh, clean water.

The rotten egg smell is from high sulphur water at the dealer's place. Flush out the tank and heater and it'll be fine. BTW sulphur water is what people pay money for at "Hot Springs" resorts.

I know that a water heater with an electric element and a used-up anode can cause a smell to the water.

Thanx, I'll try flushing the tank. I have great water here.

Jason... The Shadow Cruiser's are very light in the front end. I had the water tank full ( its up front under dinette ) and still wasnt at the 12% tongue weight I want to be at. All the storage places are in the rear, so I'm going to have to work on placing even more weight up front. Thats why I have left the water tank full.

I should have thought of that because when I towed mine home from the dealer I did that too. My tank is also up front for the same reason, to add tongue weight.

Now when we pack, there is usually enough weight without filling it.
