Is anyone out there pulling a Mobile Suites 36TK3 (17,500 lbs, 2,900 pin wt) with a Dodge 3500 SRW? I hate to trade off my perfectly good pickup just to get duallys.

I have a dually and would go to either Ford's F350 Dually with tow boss or a MDT to tow a 17,500# Mobile Suites, and I'll be willing to bet, as you will find out from Mobile Suites owners, the pinweight of 2900# is probably quite low. I had a 37' Coachmen with 3 slides, it had a GVW of 14,500# and it's pinweight was almost 2900#... You will not only go over GVWR on your 3/4 ton truck, odds are you'll go over your RAWR (rear axle weight) as well...If you want to keep your perfectly good truck, you may need to look for a lighter 5er than the MS 36TK3.

Oh, you'll be able to tow it with the 3/4 ton...but hope you don't have to go up or down any mountains. Don't think you'll be happy with the towing experience..A dually would definitely be the way to go. Not knocking on the Cummins by any means, but there is a signifcant difference between a 2500 and 3500 Dually when it comes to towing heavier weight, and a Mobile Suites, I think, should be towed with a Dually, at least one in the weight range of what your talking about.

We pull our trailer with a SRW truck and have no problems what so ever. We also go to great lengths to make certain we do not exceed the truck's RAWR, GCWR, GVWR and the tire limits.

I beleive you know what to do or this post would not have been written. JMHO

I own and pulled an ES TK3 with an '05 Dodge 3500 SRW, pulled great, no issues other than stopping. After just one white knuckle situation I retired the Dodge in favor of a truck with larger brakes.
IMO, dual rear wheels will only buy you some additional stability, and you will still be using a truck that is exceeding it's rated capacity. I think you'll find that when loaded, your rig will be somewhere around 19K pounds, a tad much for any LDT.

I hope he doesn't load it to 19,000#, the GVW on the model he is talking about has a GVW of 17,500#, 18,500 with 17.5" tires,(per MS website)...I still think he needs, at a minimum, a dually...As I stated earlier, only 3500 DRW I'd feel ok with would be the Ford F350 Dually with Tow boss...other than that...a MDT might be needed. Mobile Suites are heavy and have a heavy pinweight.

You are right NC Hauler. Good advice!

We had to trade in a perfectly good diesel truck on the truck we now have when we bought our present 5er.
Have not looked back. The dually is harder to park when shopping and etc, but does such a great job towing down the road. And is a whole lot safer.

Will the truck pull it? - Sure
Within ratings? - not even close
Safely? - you decide!
(That 2900# pin will be closer to 3500# when loaded)

Given your sig says you have a 2006 Forest River, sounds more like you are trading in a perfectly good trailer for one you can't tow.

Take your truck to a truck spring & frame shop. They're experts at building up (or cutting down) commercial trucks. Most will work on pickups too.

Every truck/camper combination is a little different. You may get by with something as simple as a set of Timbren boulsters and bigger rear tires.

Does the Mobile Suites have hydraulic brakes? If not and your Dodge is automatic you may want an exhaust brake. (about $1,500).

thecampingman,
Don't believe timbrens or "bigger rear tires" are going to make that much difference on his 3/4 ton towing a 5er that has a GVWR of 1,000# more than yours. and your towing yours with a MDT...More in the lines of what he needs to tow a MS that has a GVWR of 17,500#, possibly 18,500# if his comes with the 17.5" tires

reference dustytuu's post.
