This is what I am leaning toward. My 5th is a 2009 Jayco 285 RLS. When I look underneath it looks like it is sealed with some kind of insulation, but not sure. There are water pipes in the front storage area that i though perhaps i can insulate or maybe run a small heater down there?

I would personally watch the weather closely and only winterize if extreme cold weather is forecast.
Honestly I am not familiar with the OP's rig but my TT would be OK in those conditions. My last trip for the season is Thanksgiving weekend. MD temps will dip below 32 overnight before then . As long as I monitor the temps and run the furnace when required my TT will be fine.
As I said the OP should plan to wait out or postpone travel in the event of snow and keep a close eye on the weather. A typical NYC December is doable with some determination.

Exposed piping in your storage area is a liabilty. I would definetly insulate those pipes and maybe use a heater or light bulb over night.
I have used my TT in cold weather and know its limitations.
You will have to experiment a bit to find your rigs limits. Try and determine if your tanks and/or underbelly are heated via the furnace or 12 volt heating pads.

Bring a couple of electric heaters and plenty of propane incase of problems. I have been in my camper at 15 degrees nice and warm. Enjoy your trip. I would winterize so I would not need propane only when traveling. Wish I were camping.

Take a cruise on the Saw Mill. Same latitude. The ocean moderates temps somewhat, but overnight lows can really bounce in Dec.
If it doesn't go below freezing, I'll spring for a couple of gallons of anti-freeze, as long as those who say no problem spring for repairs.
Isn't the Sawmill cosed to trucks and trailers as is the Taconic?

I took my 5th wheel to Long Island after visiting New England a couple of years ago. It was a nightmare because of height restrictions on parkways.
Also you should make yourself aware of propane restrictions in tunnels. Varies state to state
