Hello,

I'd like to hear from both current & past owners on the good, and possibly not so good, of this brand of 5th wheel.

Thanks in advance!

I have a Newmar Mountain Aire and love it. Newmars are generally well regarded.

States I have spent the night in my current rig, bought three years ago.
Have RV'ed through 49 states and been in all 50, just short of my half-century.

We Have a 2008 Cypress and it is fantastic. It feels very solid and well made. There are so many extra touches that we really enjoy. The tanks are huge. We can go a week without dumping. And this is supposed to be thier entry level rig. The only drawback is the size and weight. My 35 is actually 39' and weighs a little less than 16,000 loaded but without water. A on ton duelly is about minimum for this rig.

The current owner pulls this 32' w/ a 2500 CC DA and states he's quite comfortable with that TV. Dry weight is close to 12K, & the GVWR goes up to 16,250#, which is also the same GVWR for their 5'vers all the way up to their 37' models, per Newmar's brochure they emailed me for 2006 MY fifth wheels. I understand they use a 12" I- beam frame, along w/ 1.5" C channel studs in the walls which makes up for some of the increased weight. All in all, is this 32' too much trailer for a 2500 CC DA?

Thanks

See weights in signature on my 5 year old combination. Weights were with fresh water full and packed for a week on the road. I am overweight on Gross combined spec weight of truck and trailer by 1000# (23,000# and spec is 22,000#) but only a few hundred over on rear axle weight due to low pin weight percentage. I AM NOT ENDORSING BEING OVERWEIGHT. Has worked well for me but I understand exactly what I have and try to drive accordingly. Stopping is not a issue as I have Disc brakes on trailer. I got into this position by beliving dry published weights which do not relate to the real world of how many of us load and equip our rigs. I plan on looking into a dually when time comes for next truck. Randy

Take a look through the fiver thread on the Newmar Owners Forum.

A number of comments on the Cypress there.

As others have said, Newmars are good quality and generally heavy - our Mtn Aire has GVWR of 20k and weighs in just over 17k ready to travel. Best to have a substantial truck to handle them.

Newmar also has an excellent factory service center, with reasonable prices if you are out of warranty. We bought ours used two years ago and have been extremely happy with every aspect, quality and livability.

A little off topic but how does it compare to the Cameo from Carriage? Both being entry level units it comes down to Carriage verses Newmar?

We have the Cypress thats in my sig. We bought it new and so far very few problems. I've towed it approx 12,000 miles so far and have been in a couple of panic stop situations and the 2500 Duramax I tow with has handled it ok. But when I get a new vehicle will go with a 3500 dually, I have all the weights on my setup and I'm right on the max on everything, so I think the 3500 would be a better tow vehicle. In my opinion Newmar makes one of the better 5th wheels out there, we belong to the Newmar Kountry Klub and I hear very few if any complaints from the 5er owners......

We have 1999 American Star 29 foot with 3 slides. This was the forerunner to the Cypress. Have towed about 6000 miles with no problems. Built like a tank. Tow with a GMC 2500 D/A.
