From a search on "tires cupping" on Google:

"A "cupped" wear pattern on the tires can be caused by a wheel and tire that are out of balance or by weak shock absorbers or struts. This type of wear occurs because the wheel bounces up and down as it rolls down the highway. The cure here is to have the wheel balanced or replace the worn shocks or struts."

It can also be caused by alignment. That was my problem with my Honda rear tires (twice now).

If this is your toad and the tow bar is not very close to level, it will cause cupping on the front tires. This is one of the main reasons that the tow bar needs to be very close to level.

Have the alignment of the toad checked and be sure the caster of the front wheels are near the max spec------not the minimum side of the spec.

Don't throw away those cupped tires after you have the wheels alligned. We had the rear tires of our C-RV do the same thing. I found a tire shop that would "True" the tires.

Truing is a process where enough rubber is removed from the tire tread to correct the cupping. The wheel is spun while on the car, the high spots are shaved off and the assembly balanced. The cost was $25 per tire. All the noise went away, lots of tread left.

This process is usually found at a tire shop that specialize in tires for those big jacked up pick up trucks with the over sized wheels and tires. I found a shop in my area by searching on the web.

It was once common for used car lots to correct the existing tires rather than align and replace tires.

i had the front aligned prior to putting on the new tires...the tow bar is level I haven't had the struts checked just figured that 60k miles they shouldn't be worn out..guess I will put new struts on and try that.
