Why not remove the old tailgate and give it to them to match the color? Just make sure you get the old one back as they might attempt to repair it.

apparently the paint guy doesn't know about over spray, and don't let them tell you he's too good to get over spray. only time you don't get over spray is when you use a paint brush.

they will probably coat the truck in a water soluable solution which will prevent any over spray. They want the truck for a perfect match. Unless the truck is brand new there is likly some fade or some subtle change from original. Hoverever, I do understand your reluctance to take the truck back to the place that messed it up in the first place.

I agree with radardog,after doing a lot of garage painting, let them have the truck,the tailgate will be removed,but they will match it better using the whole truck,not just bits of something.

You know I was thinking, "so what if the tail gate is a little off shade". Since it is on the back it is isolated from the sides. So a little mismatch would never be noticed. Tje tailgate on my white truck sometimes looks a different white than the side because of the difference in the sun shading.
