Lots of converters have protection against reverse polarity.

Look around and see if the converter has a fuse or circuit breaker that can be changed or reset.

On the other hand, if the 120v is working, you could disconnect the battery from the converter and put in a regular 120v powered battery maintainer plugged into the 120v the converter is making.

If you were to tell us what converter you have many of us could discribe to you where to look and how to repair it.

Guessing won't help... alternative fixes won't solve your problem.

For example: Our Lance campers came with a PD 9145 (Progressive Dynamics) for many years, and our manual told us how to find the "fuse."

Ours appears to be a MagneTek 6300A series, nothing in the manual

freespirit2, here is a link to the diagrams for your converter.
Magnetek converter diagrams and troubleshooting

If you have the tech knowhow you can repair it/trouble shoot it. It does not have the reverse polarity fuses like the more advanced converters everyone is talking about.

You would be better off obtaining a more state of the art converter.
Depending on your camper wiring you may have to do some minor rewire from the converter to the battery to handle the increased charge capacity.
Contact Randy at Bestconverter and talk to him about your needs.

What I worry about is your things that run on 12 vdc. If you have an old style fridge it should be ok but if it is a 90's or newer you may have a electronic controller that would have fried. Any other device that runs on 12 vdc may be fried too. Gotta test them....

I would remove all the fuses in the Magnetek, reinstall your battery and check things out. If your battery is dead or low, use a battery charger on the battery to test things and bring your battery up.

If all checks out then you can make a decision about what to do about the converter.

I would upgrade to a newer technology converter. Hopefully you have some mechanical ability and electronic knowledge to install a new one.

Let us know how things go.

Jim
