I don't expect to use the tire again. As a general rule, when I have a blow out I would always replace both tires on the side of the blow out.

Easy answer:
Flat tires are *NOT* meant to be driven on - period!
(Unless they're some version of "run flat" tires)
Try asking your question of any tire mfgr, tire shop, etc.

So, you get off (or to the side) of the road to a safe spot ASAP and change it.

If the tire survives the "event" - great!
If not, time to find a replacement.
End of story.

Summer of 2007 I was headed up I-59 to Chattanooga and blew the right rear on the 5ver in a construction zone no less. No shoulder - one lane for a while then opened up to two -- those behind me couldn't wait for that 2nd lane - wow.
there was no exit for about 10 miles -- we went along at 10mph -- seems fast when you are on three tires - waiting for another to go. Took forever - but we pulled off finnaly and I changed to the spare. the tire was ripped to shreads - click here to view photo

I once had one and crawled to the off ramp maybe 1/2 mile, no harm to anything but the tire. I didn't have much of a shoulder to work with (I would not have been off the road) and I would not change a tire there either. Maybe if you can get completely off the road I would call for help. At very least a Police car or tow truck behind the RV while making the change.

I would put it in 4lo and drag it on the frame before I stand on the white line separating me from traffic to change a flat. People have died on the freeways doing that around here.

With the TST system, or most any tire pressure monitor system your much farther ahead in the warning process than without any system. That aside, you are 100% correct in the fact that a lot of people are killed every year while changing tires on a RV, car/truck. Finding a good safe place to have that failed tire removed can be difficult. Idling along the highway looking for that safe place could be as dangerous as stopping. Your hoping that the vehicles driving behind you understand your moving many miles per hour slower than they are and far enough off the roadway. I tell people all the time that if they do not feel safe where they are, to idle to the place that 'feels' safe. Will damage happen to the rig, maybe, will it damage the wheel, maybe, but it is a lot easier to fix those things than replace a loved one. I really hope you don't have to experience the possibilities of having to put yourself in that situation.

Having a blowout on one location of the trailer does put added stress on the remaining tire. In some cases it overloads that remaining tire by thousands of pounds. Most people never even consider that and then have a tire issue with that tire sometime down the road and wonder why. Safe travels

I guess if it was the traffic side that could pose a hazard, but thats why I got GSERS now he can take the risk. Mine were on the sholder side which was no problem to change.

That's my point exactly!
