Invest in a TRAILER SAVER AIR RIDE HITCH WITH A BINKLEY HEAD (Hinsley Manf.) and you will never ever worry about the trailer not being connected unless your blind in one eye and cant see out of the other one. Big Bucks but worth every penny.

If you do a proper pull test, why do you need the bed saver??

Your first assumption was correct the bedsaver will not save a stock tailgate if you drive off after unhitching and forget to lower the tailgate. Assuming of course you got your landing gear down, thats the one of the first things I do when unhitching it is real important to do so or you are going to need that bedsaver when hitching and unhitching, and after reading the number of people that drop a fiver I can only imagine how many forget the landing gear and drop the fiver while unhitching.

A bedsaver is very easy to fabricate if you have the means.

I was going to say that...I've always done the pull test and so far, it's been the cheapest route to go, just always gotta remember to it......

The bed saver catches the pin about 10" behind the hitch. By that time the back of the pinbox has destroyed your short bed tailgate, if it is in the up position.

There are several reasons a 5er can land on the bed that has passed the pull test. If its high pinned it can pass a pull test but usually dumps the 5er at the first sharp turn. If some idiot has pulled/cut your lock or pins or latch or ...... . If the hitch head has a malfunction ...... . Many older campgrounds/unimproved campgrounds/boondocking are not very level which can lead to a jammed pin in the hitch head. In that case its nice to have a bed saver when trying to use the truck to pull the jammed pin out.

Don't be fooled in thinking the pull test or my hitch brand won't drop a 5er.

I use the Bedsaver for all the reasons a 5er can/has will land on the bed rails.

Having individual motors on your landing gear also helps if you are on unlevel ground.

Pull test can bend your landing gear legs if you have your exstenders down to far.
