We're baffled. We just got our 2002 Dutch Star diesel. When we go to fill the onboard water tank, the pump kicks on and we have to turn off all three pump switches.
With this set-up, you hook the hose to the city water connection, then turn a valve to fill. That's when the pump starts. Weird.
An aside: the overflow is on the opposite side of the coach, so you have to run around there to see if water is coming out. Seems dumb to me.

I would return to the dealer and have them rerun you through the whole walkthru where the dealer is supposed to show the owner all about how everything works, sounds like they skimped on you. That's just good policy for all RV dealers, and most all do it.

Sounds like you SHOULD turn off the on board pump before filling water tank. If the system is like mine when you open the valve to fill the water tank you are releasing the water pressure of the onboard water system and the water pump is just trying to get the pressure back up.

Why run around to the other side to see the water run out? On our 2000 Dutch Star I can hear the water running out, or I look under the control panel and can see the end of the water tank. Look closely and you can see the water level in the water tank.

I thought that pressurized water tanks went out in the 70's. Most are supply on demand and the water tank has no pressure on it, at least not on my last 4 MH's

rvten - On my water system, I connect to my city water connection on MH to fill my water tank. There is a valve that I open that allows water from the city water inlet to be diverted to the on board water storage tank. When I open this valve, the MH water system pressure drops (because water system is now open to the water tank pressure) and if the pump is on, it will run.
