Hi again all,

Finally ready to bite the bullet and upgrade from the popup to a TT. A fellow nearby has the 2600TB Futura model and we have agreed upon a price of $9,500. Everything appears to work perfectly and the few known problems are as follows: The "Camper Queen" mattress was given to his son and will need to be replaced (cost unknown right now...est ~$300) and the battery must be replaced (~$100). The unit appears to be in great shape and very well cared for. The mileage appears to be very little. It sure is aptly named - very modern looking.

It looks like a peach and, without spending $6K more for the Outback 25RS-S that we'd REALLY like, appears to meet our needs.

I've read a bunch of posts here and know that there were a few folks who had problems here and there and I wonder if anyone can add anything more to the conversation.

Last thing, he is including the WD hitch (maker unknown to me), a reflective cover that covers the entire TT, and the miscellaneous chucks/doo-dads/whatnot that you might expect.

OK, so...anyone with anything to add or thoughts on the relative value of this TT, please reply.

THANK YOU!

DC

Dear SuperDaveC: We have our 2800fl for 3 years. We had several problems, some severe and others minor. All have been corrected and/or repaired by the dealer or myself. These trailers went for approx $25K, so your price is excellent. The new trailers had problems so expect problems with used ones. We love our Futura now that everything is OK. SuperDaveC,

Is there a remaining wrranty? If there is, I would get it. If there isn't, are you pretty handy? Can you look at a roof and tell it is ok? All the appliances/fridge work ok? GO through it thoroughly just incase he's hiding something.....Sounds to cheap of price to me...

Thank you both for your replies.

This fellow and his wife are Christian missionaries in Mexico and I feel very comfortable that they are candid about the camper. There is no remaining warranty but the dealer is known to be generous about repairs.

The owner did say that there was a small leak he has noticed only once that came in around the window facing the tow vehicle. He took it to the dealer as a precaution and was told it came in from the outside because of the angle of the fiberglass. Newer models, it was pointed out, have a little "drip shield" that hangs from such a point as to prevent rain from trickling in to a low point. There is no noticeable damage. In fact, a microscope would not reveal anything, I believe.

I am pretty handy. I could probably fix many small things that come up myself.

One strange thing though. I scoured the internet and found a dealer in Ohio that has the same 2000 model BRAND NEW for sale on his lot. I called to see just how inexpensively it could be had given that it's some three years old now and NEVER been sold. He said retail was $18,900 but he'd sell it today for $11,000. That's only $2,500 more than the one I'm looking at and would include a warranty. Also, I wouldn't have to replace the mattress or battery.

Still, I feel very good about going forward with this purchase.

On another point, the WD hitch...I don't know how these things are supposed to work but can sway bars be added to it or are they installed without regard to a WD hitch? At first glance I thought the WD hitch WAS the sway bars. Clearly, I do not know about these things. Help on this subject?

Thanks again,
Dave

Sway bars are used with the WD hitch. If it's a Reese WD hitch, you can add a Dual Cam system that works with the WD hitch. A WD hitch is not a sway control, though it does help. You could also go friction sway, though they aren't as effective and relatively the same price as the DC system. Find out what kind of WD hitch it is...

I just called and asked and he said it is a Draw-Tite WD hitch. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to add sway bars to the Draw-Tite?

Thanks!

Hi SuperDaveC,

Draw-Tite and Reese are basically the same company so any Reese sway control should work. Depending on the sway control you want, (I personally recommend the Reese dual-cam setup) anywhere from $100 for the friction type to around $165 for the dual cam. Get the best you can now, and you can't go wrong. It'll save you the headache of figuring out that the friction type is not enough. The dual cam is far superior to the friction bar type.

What truck are you pulling with?

Have fun and good luck with the purchase..

Hello SuperDaveC,

I took delivery of my Futura 2980FK in May 1999. We've had a few problems that the dealer took care of under warranty. Since expiration of the warranty, I've had roof leaks and leaks around 3 of the windows. My advice would be to calk around all of the windows with a clear silicone calk and check the roof penetrations and the cleat the holds the rubber to the front and rear end caps. Otherwise, all systems are holding up well. We enjoy our Futura very much. It suits our camping lifestyle. Good luck with yours.
