I just pickup up a used Coleman Swamp (evaporative) cooler and will be attempting to install it in the near future. It does not appear to have a float system so my guess is you just turn on the water to it when it runs out, and off when it overflows. The inlet hose looks to run from the outside of the unit so I will have to run into the camper somewhere. I have thought about putting a valve in a line going outside so it can easily be turned off when not in use. There is also a drain line that runs into what will be the vent area (inside the camper. Is this how it should be set up?? Do you attach a hose and drain it into the sink then??
I am looking for your ideas or cautions on installing this and how to set it up for best operation. Thanks for any input.

Not knowing how much water this thing holds or uses in a day.. this may or may not be a usefull idea...
Perhaps get a toilet bowl float valve.. they make very small ones that have a built in float (not the kind with the huge black ball for a float)
this can be plumbed into the tank, with a valve on the outside so you can decide when you want it to be full or not...
We used one for an automatic chicken water trough when I was a kid.

From what I can tell the unit is completely sealed and you can't even access the water inlet to install a float system. Thanks for the idea though and I will check it out again.

There are several different RV evaporative coolers.
The older has a float valve and vertical motor, with rubber cone, that splash water on the pads. I used to have one like it and had to turn water off in advance, or during driving that thing would overfill and splash water on passengers.
New one has a horizontal drum, that pick-ups the water. Those have good recommendation.
Don't know what type you have dmount, but can't believe about cooler without valve.

Contact Coleman and request a manual, I am sure you will find that there is or has been a level control somewhere.
