If you haven’t already registered for Affinity’s The Rally 2009, time is running short! On April 17-20 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, you can see thousands of RVs and RV-related products, take a local tour along the famous Route 66, join the family friendly activities, attend one of many educational seminars, check out — or even participate in — the annual Dog Show, and enjoy live entertainment such as Neil Sedaka, Rita Coolidge and the Osmond Brothers. Thousands of RV enthusiasts, newbies and veterans alike will gather on the event grounds and explore the RV lifestyle with industry experts from around the world.
This year, The Rally is also hosting its first Green Challenge Contest 2009, starting out with two green initiatives. “Reality RV” is the first initiative, where wilderness expert and survivalist Brian Brawdy will be challenged to conserve resources while living in an RV (without hookups) on The Rally grounds. Brian is a well-known spokesperson for eco-awareness, who has appeared on CBS’s The Early Show, ABC’s Good Morning America, multiple news segments for Fox News, NBC, CNN and the New York Times — so who better to lead the way to eco-friendly RVing? With cameras installed in his Lance Model 1181 camper, Rally guests can watch and learn from Brian by viewing a large outdoor screen. Brian’s usage of water and power will be measured and compared to the same usage statistics for a couple living in an average-size home.
The second Green Challenge initiative will be a contest where readers of Trailer Life magazine and other Affinity publications are invited to submit “green” inventions/concepts for RVs. Participants must submit an outline of their ideas for posting on The Rally Web site, and then bring their fully executed inventions to the event for final judging. Cash awards will be given for first, second, and third place — so start rolling with your ideas ... and good luck!
