Ford Recalls 4.5 Million Vehicles
Ford Motor Company has recalled 4.5 million vehicles equipped with the Texas Instruments Speed Control Deactivation Switch (SCDS). The SCDS may leak internally and then overheat, smoke or burn, which could cause a vehicle fire.

Ford will notify owners and dealers will install a fused wiring harness for the SCDS. Dealers will also inspect the ABS control connector and repair as necessary. Repairs completed will be free of charge.

The recall is expected to officially begin on or around October 26.

Affected vehicles include:

  • 1992-2003 Econoline

  • 2000-2003 Excursion

  • 1993-1997, 1999-2003 F Super Duty

  • 2004 Ford F53

  • 1995-1997, 2001-2003 Ranger

  • 1995-2003 Windstar

  • 1995-2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Owners may contact Ford at (888) 222-2751. They can also contact the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236, or by logging on to www.safercar.gov.
