Contributing a fresh variation on the fifth-wheel floorplan theme for 2006, Pilgrim
International has released its Model 357RL3S-5E triple slide, designed to look and feel
more like a vacation home than the average RV. The test unit’s floorplan consists of a
forward bedroom with a streetside queen-bed slideout, followed by an adjoining walk-through
bathroom. Moving aft and stepping down a level is a midway galley and dining area. At the
rear is a living room of considerable spaciousness, thanks to two opposing slideouts.
Interior decor on this unit is definitely a cut or two above entry-level, and creates a
very homey and upscale environment. One of this model’s prime attractions is its potential
to host a considerable number of guests for social gatherings, attested to by the
configuration of the galley and dining area that includes a streetside, oval-shape 28 x
52-inch dining-room table and six side chairs. A multitude of overhead and under-counter
cabinets and drawers in the galley provide a variety of areas to store utensils and food,
and the bar even has a modest overhead china hutch for glasses and such. The curbside
living-room slideout houses a 64-inch love seat that is also a sofa bed, and the rear of
the area sports optional designer rocker recliners. After guests are fed, their attention
might be directed to the living room’s streetside alcove, complete with a full-featured
home-entertainment center with a 27-inch TV, AM/FM/CD and DVD player with surround sound.
The spacious bedroom and master bath suite proved to be an ideal setup for showering and
spending the night. Storage space in these two zones is plentiful, and includes a forward
closet with mirrored sliding glass doors, a 15 x 55-inch dressing table with overhead
cabinets curbside and more space under the bed if needed. Blessed with tasteful decor,
abundant living and entertaining space and plenty of storage areas, Pilgrim International’s
new Open Road 37-foot triple-slide is a fresh approach in a familiar fifth-wheel layout.
