If you need an SUV that combines seating for up to nine, huge carrying capacity and the ability to tow large trailers, the Yukon may be for you. For 2011 the GMC Yukon XL full-size SUV is available in 1500 and heavy-duty 2500 models, which are available in three trim levels: SLE, SLT and Denali (1500 only).

Base SLE trim comes with keyless entry, a 40/20/40 front bench with six-way power adjustments, dual-zone climate control, rear-seat air-conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity and an eight-speaker audio system with CD and satellite radio. SLT trim adds power front buckets, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, Bose audio, power-adjustable pedals, remote start, a built-in rearview camera and rear park assist. The premium Denali has 20-inch wheels, a power liftgate, heated and vented seats with power-folding, a large rearview camera setup, GPS nav system and 10-speaker Bose surround sound. Other options a sunroof, side blind-zone alert, second-row captain’s chairs and rear-seat entertainment system. Stability control is standard, along with ABS and updated OnStar.

Three V8s are offered in the Yukon XL. In the 1500 there’s a standard 5.3-liter V8 rated 320 horsepower and 335 pound-feet of torque, and 1500s come with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2500 models come standard with a 6.0-liter V8 rated at 352 hp and 382 lb-ft of torque and a six-speed automatic geared for enhanced towing. The Yukon XL Denali gets a powerful 6.2-liter V8 rated 403 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. Two- and four-wheel-drive versions are available. Properly equipped, a Yukon XL 2500 can tow up to 9,600 pounds.
