When people think of famous St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, Boston, Chicago and New York City are probably the first to come to mind. And while the three have certainly earned their reputations as the hottest places to sport shamrocks, they offer anything but warmth when it comes to the weather. RVers looking to stay toasty while they toast on Saturday, March 17, should head south to Savannah, Georgia, for the city’s 188th St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

More than 350 floats, Irish bands and U.S. military units will participate in the three-hour parade, which steps off at 10:15 a.m. But the celebration actually begins about two weeks prior with the Greening of the Fountain in Forsyth Park and the Celtic Cross Ceremony, among other activities. The city’s eateries will get in on the action by serving up green grits. And make sure to stop by Leopold’s Ice Cream for a Guinness-flavored treat. For details, call (912) 233-4804 or visit www.savannahsaintpatricksday.com.

The 200-acre Red Gate Campground and RV Resort also awaits travelers and is located less than 10 minutes from downtown Savannah. Oversized sites for dual-sided slideout RVs, full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service and an on-site propane refilling station are just a few of the amenities offered at Red Gate Campground. For more information, visit www.redgatecampground.com or call (912) 272-8028.
