Couples living in their RVs on a full-time basis have an entirely different set of priorities than families using their rigs for the occasional weekend or vacation. When a travel trailer or fifth-wheel is your home for the majority of the year — or more — compromising on tank capacity, fit and finish, or a certain floorplan you desire is not an option. You’ve worked hard for the freedom to explore, and now you need an RV that’s designed around your mobile lifestyle, without extraneous features or trade-offs.

As Boomers age and the RV lifestyle continues gaining popularity, manufacturers have been eager to pull out the bunk beds, improve materials and finishes, add residential-grade features and design units that make full-time life on the road easier, more fun and more comfortable.

When your trailer becomes your house, there’s even more pressure to choose the perfect model. Ask yourself: how much time will you spend on the road, how often will you be connected to services and what features will make each day in the campground even better than the last? Keeping your priorities top of mind, we have scoured the industry to assemble a listing of 12 trailers built for full-timers just like you.

CrossRoads Washington by Rushmore

An all-new floorplan for 2013, the Washington is a larger variant of CrossRoads’ luxurious line of Rushmore fifth-wheels with dual slideouts and optional dual awnings. The living area is defined by a large entertainment center with an optional fireplace, a standard desk, 84-inch sofa and a separate loveseat for entertaining or stretching out in front of the TV. In the bedroom, a 60-by-80-inch queen bed is standard, with an optional king-size mattress. A 24-by-36-inch skylight brightens the room, while a wardrobe with drawers, vanity, washer/dryer prep and in-room entertainment center adds utility. The single-door bathroom has a roomy 30-by-38-inch shower.

How come I don’t see any reviews on Heartland products, ie.. Bighorn 5th wheels… We just purchased a Bighorn 3586 that I feel is just as nice if not nicer overall than many of the 5th wheels you have listed in this months article on full time living. I would love to see an honest article on Heartland products..

    Thanks!!!

I am surprised that you did not include any Hitchhiker 5th Wheels by NUWA industries! All three lines; LS, Discover America, and Champagne Edition are all season AND used by full timers at a very reasonable price. What also surpised me is that NUWA has advertised in your magazine AND was not included in your article.

In reguards to your article on full time rv’s. The 12 rigs you listed are all nice units. However, there are other rigs that work well.
I was wondering why you did not include NUWA 5th wheel trailers?
They work very well for the full time or extended stay rv’ers, and have been around a lot longer than some of the rigs you listed.
