Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has walked away with the grand prize, not once, not twice, but three times! Selected the National RV Park of the Year by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC) in 1997, 1999 and 2002-2003,
this family-friendly, colorful and expansive park is today a national
vacation destination. Built in 1970 by Nelson Jackson, his wife Mary
Emily, and their five children, the park opened the next year with
waiting lines filled with patrons all vying for one of the 30 initial
campsites. Thirty years later, Ocean Lakes spreads across 310 acres of Atlantic oceanfront property and boasts a total of 3,385 total sites, including 893 regular RV-rental spots, annual leased sites, rentals and even several “stick-built” vacation homes.
The largest park on the East Coast has a list of amenities to
please anyone who enjoys good weather, beautiful scenery, pleasant
accommodations and hospitable landlords. In addition to almost a mile of
sandy beach and saltwater, the resort includes eight freshwater lakes,
half a dozen swimming pools, a miniature golf course, snack bars, bike
rentals, a marine life Nature Center, an on-site church service,
fishing, a Camptown Store and so much more. Scheduled events are
non-stop all year round; a few of the special highlights include a big New Year’s Eve Party & Fifth Annual Polar Bear Plunge;
Beach n’ Boogie Weekend in February; St. Patrick’s Day Weekend; a Craft
Fair in July; and the Field of Dreams Weekend (baseball camp with the
pros) in August. Because of this abundance of fun and excitement, and
much more, Ocean Lakes Family Campground is rated a 10-10-10 in the Trailer Life Campground Directory.
