California's Plank Road

Between 1915 and 1926, California’s Plank Road was the only direct route
from Yuma Arizona, to the Imperial Valley.  The big impediment was
crossing 7 miles of shara-like sand dunes — some cresting 300 feet high
— which extend 40 miles north from the Mexican border. Learn more about the rich history of California’s Plank Road by downloading the California’s Plank Road.pdf.
