G.M. Drops to Second Place

General Motors recently reported its total worldwide sales of 8.36 million vehicles for
2008, which was a drop of 10.8% from the previous year. This ended its 77-year run as the
world’s largest auto manufacturer and gave it to Toyota, with total unit sales of 8.97
million. In the future GM announced it will have four core brands that include Chevrolet,
Cadillac, Buick, and GMC. Pontiac is to be downsized and Saturn may close, while G.M. is
also working on a strategy to sell Saab and Hummer.
