GM "Pushes" E85 Fuel

As fuel price increases hit the United States, General Motors is promoting the use of E85
ethanol-gasoline fuel mixtures, which are 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. GM’s
only current E85-compatible vehicles are the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC Sonoma four-cylinder
pickup trucks. All 2002 model year full-size SUVs — including Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon
equipped with 5.3-liter engines — will be able to use the gasoline-ethanol mix. Ethanol is
produced from agricultural products such as corn, but could also be made from materials
such as wood, grass and waste-cellulose.
