GM Recalls 1.38 Million SUVs and Light trucks

General Motors has issued a recall of 1.38 million sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) and light
trucks for a brake system component. The safety recall notice warned of close clearance
between the front right-hand brake pipe and the vehicle frame. The National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration reports: “If contact occurs and the brake pipe becomes damaged, there
can be a loss of brake fluid and pressure. During braking, the pedal will be lower than
normal and stopping distances will be longer. If this occurs when distance is limited, a
crash could occur.” Vehicles covered in the recall include: 1999-2000 Chevrolet Silverado,
2000 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2000 Chevrolet Suburban, 2000 GMC Yukon/Yukon XL, and 1999-2000 GMC
Sierras. GM said there have been no reports of crashes related to this problem, and that
dealers will inspect the front right-hand brake pipe for wear and take corrective action at
no charge.
