Midwestern Gas Prices Up

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that prices of gasoline have risen an
average of 2.5 cents to a record $1.56 per gallon. California prices remained steady at an
average of $1.61. Reformulated gasoline was introduced into about one-third of the nation
on June 1. The EIA also stated that reformulated gas prices in some Midwest areas averaged
$1.84 and had climbed above $2.00 per gallon in some locations. Price increases are
attributed to the introduction of cleaner-burning reformulated gasoline, which has resulted
in spot shortages.
