MTBE Banned in California

Due to groundwater pollution, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) has been banned in
California as of January 2006. Ethanol alcohol, made from corn and other grains, will be
used instead to comply with an Environmental Protection Agency requirement that all
gasoline sold there contain an oxygenate additive.
