10-Minute Tech: Keep Water Out

Funnel Electrical

I prefer to use a power-cord connector with an angle head to take stress off the connector, but wet weather was a concern. I came up with an idea to keep the connection point between the pigtail and power cord dry, whether it’s misty out or raining hard. Split a 6- to 8-inch plastic funnel and fit it around the power cord above the connecter. Seal the funnel split with heavy-duty duct tape. Attach a hose clamp to the funnel tip to hold it in place. The power cord can still be easily disconnected below the funnel when you’re packing up your campsite.

  1. Once split and installed, you can use a heat gun to mold the plastic back together again. This action doesn’t cause you to deal with the glue from the duct tape.
