To change the oil, position the generator so a disposable container can be placed below it. Here the generator straddles two stools above an empty snack-food container.
Using a spark-plug socket with a short extension on a ratchet, remove the spark plug.
If the gap is within the specification, check its overall condition to determine if the engine is running well. The owner’s manual should spell out the kinds of wear to look for. For instance, if it is wet, the generator engine is running rich, and if it is discolored, there may be other problems. Use a wire brush to clean off any debris. When finished, take the container with the old oil to an oil-recycling center.
