Six lighter-weight travel trailers and fifth-wheels make it easier to take to the road in search of adventure.
Step into a trio of nimble new towables with lengths under 30 feet:
KZ Sportsmen SE
A scaled-down version of the Sportsmen LE, KZ’s new Sportsmen SE travel trailer debuted this year with six floorplans. Despite budget-friendly pricing, all SE models are packed with standard features, starting with a drop-in range with a glass cover and a multimedia stereo and DVD player with wireless connectivity. The 26-foot, 4-inch 240FBSE has room to snooze on the convertible dinette, jackknife sofa and walk-around queen bed.
GVWR: 7,000 pounds. MSRP: $19,771.
Starcraft Super Lite
In developing its all-new line of Super Lite travel trailers, Starcraft aimed to make them lightweight, practical and affordable. True to its first objective, the 29-foot, 5-inch 242RL has a 6,500-pound gross vehicle weight rating. On the practical side, it comes with easy-care vinyl flooring and a walk-around queen bed with a residential mattress. With a base price of $25,780, it’s also easy on the wallet.
GVWR: 6,500 pounds. MSRP: $25,780.
Winnebago Minnie Drop
A new floorplan for 2019, the 210RBS is the first Minnie Drop equipped with tandem axles, allowing Winnebago to install larger holding tanks for longer stays when untethered to campground hookups. Even with dual axles, the 25-foot, 2-inch travel trailer has the characteristic retro look of the Minnie Drop, yet amenities are decidedly modern.
GVWR: 7,400 pounds. MSRP: $30,378.
Three RV manufacturers roll out lighter fivers for pulling with half-ton pickups:
Flagstaff Super Lite
For 2019 Forest River added a rotating Turning Point pin box to Flagstaff’s Super Lite fifth-wheels so owners of four-door shortbed trucks don’t need a slider hitch. The 32-foot, 5-inch 527BHS, one of nine new Super Lites, has rear bunks and a bedroom up front with a wardrobe slideout. Another slideout houses a sofa and U-shaped dinette.
GVWR: 10,080 pounds. MSRP: $47,692.
KZ Durango Half-Ton
All seven floorplans in KZ’s Durango Half-Ton line have gvw ratings below 12,000 pounds. The 33-foot, 2-inch D256RKT comes with a long list of standard upgrades, starting with Corian countertops in the U-shaped galley. A slideout houses the bench-style dinette and theater seating, with an adjacent sofa sleeper. An opposing slideout is home to the entertainment center.
GVWR: 10,500 pounds. MSRP: $50,743.
Prime Time Crusader
With its 320DEN, Prime Time took a floorplan that’s been successful in the luxury fifth-wheel market and brought it to a more attainable price and weight. Measuring 36 feet, 10 inches, the 320DEN offers a bar-height dinette with a restaurant-style bench and residential barstools. Opposing slideouts with a sofa-sleeper and theater seating face the rear-wall entertainment center.
GVWR: 11,725 pounds. MSRP: $62,858.
