This 2003 Chevy 2500 shortbed had been purchased used and had been fitted with a fifth-wheel hitch at some point in its history. We don’t know what hitch it was or who installed it, but modern installation practice is to bolt on the mounting brackets, not weld them.
As noted in an earlier step, the feet mounted to the hitch base fit into the slots in the base rails. The hitch assembly is then secured by a pin (arrow) at each corner so it can be quickly removed if needed (that is, if you have a hoist or a couple of strong friends handy).
moves rearward the more it is turned.
