This 2003 Chevy 2500 shortbed had been purchased used and had been fitted with a fifth-wheel hitch at some point in its history. We don’t know what hitch it was or who installed it, but modern installation practice is to bolt on the mounting brackets, not weld them.
Mounting brackets are located on top of the frame, with top plates that butt up against the bottom of the truck bed. PullRite installs these ingenious little nut tabs underneath both of the slotted bolt holes to hold the flange nut in place and stop it from turning, so installation can truly be a one-person job.
Once satisfied that the measurements are correct, the technician drills small pilot holes using the base rails as a guide.
