Factory–to-dealer deliveries of recreation vehicles are expected to
reach their highest levels in 25 years as baby boomers continue to drive
up sales, according to new forecasts for 2003. Roughly 20 percent more
RVs were manufactured in 2002 compared with 2001, according to the
Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), Reston, Virginia.
Another 5 percent gain is predicted for 2003.
Long-term trends point to substantial RV-market growth as baby
boomers enter their prime RV-buying years. Over the next decade, the
number of RV-owning households is projected to continue to rise, with a
further 15 percent increase by 2010. A study by the University of
Michigan found that the number of RVs owned by those 35 to 54 grew
faster than all other age groups between 1998 and 2001.
