General Motors recalled 778,000 Buick Skylark, Oldsmobile Achieva and Pontiac Grand Am
autos built between May 1993 and June 1995. Fires can occur in the steering column of these
vehicles when the driver holds the key in the start position for an extended period of
time, resulting in heavy current flows and resultant high temperatures in the ignition
switch. GM dealers will install an electrical relay kit as part of the recall.
